Spruce Up Your Home With Decorative Plant Stands

by Lee Dobbins

Plant stands offer an interesting way to decorate creatively and can be used for a lot more than just plants! For example, if you need additional space for displaying items and have no free space on your mantle or shelving, why not use a pedestal plant stand instead?

A top of the line plant stand will make either living or artificial plants look wonderful. Silk, artificial plants can be very life like and this allows you to enjoy the benefits of plants without having to care for them as you would a living plant. A plant stand will add charm as well as supporting an artificial plant.

When selecting a stand, there are some things to think about, even if you'll be placing something other than greenery atop your plant stand. The plant's beauty should be enhanced by the stand, not detracted from or competed with. Your plants are of course the center of attention, but with the wide variety in plant stands today, your guests will be awed by both the plants and the pedestals they are resting upon.

Considering the type of plant the stand will support is also important. Stand size should be considered in comparison to the plant. Putting a little decorative cactus plant on an oversize, wrought-iron base might be a bad idea. On the other hand, a bulky stand would be appropriate for a large fern or heavy plant.

You should also be aware of the color of the stand. Always consider the colors of the flowers of the plants you will be displaying. Complimenting colors or soothing neutral tones should be used in your new plant stand.

Size is something you should think about carefully. Make sure that your plant pot will fit on top of the stand. Your container should fit on top of the stand with room to spare. This will help keep the stand stable.

You should not encounter difficulties placing the stand upright as long as the floor is solid and level. Plants that are large and heavy require a stand that is appropriate for your flooring while offering the necessary support. A lightweight pedestal will not be heavy enough to work on a very plush carpet. However, if you have a hardwood floor, this base will be perfect.

The top of your plant stand can reflect your own style and is a great place to begin your home decorating. So this and you'll have a unique display that adds charm and creativity to your home.
